In 2014, the term ‘pedal pub1’ was heard for the very first time in New York, and presented as ‘entertainment’ for the very first time in Buffalo. Five years later, the term has become synonymous with one of the most fun things to do in Buffalo. Looking back to 2014, the Downtown Buffalo bar scene was very different from today. Canalside was an industrial park, Buffalo Riverworks was just an abandoned grain silo, and the cracked stone buildings downtown definitely were not considered “art of Buffalo”. But despite skepticism from City of Buffalo officials and the lack of nightlife downtown, BPT founder Ken Szal knew in his gut this was opportunity for something great. So, he did what every responsible ‘serial entrepreneur’ would do. He used money from his retirement fund to buy a pedal pub and had it shipped 2,534 miles from the Netherlands to Buffalo.
Guess you can say the moral of the story here is to go with your gut and never give up on what you believe in. Oh, and biking is always better with a beer. Buffalo is now home to three Buffalo Pedal Tours locations housing a total of 6 party bikes, and the nation’s largest 18 passenger pontoon-style cycle boat. In 2016, two more locations opened up in Rochester and Syracuse both run by Ken’s son Phillip.
Over the last five years Buffalo Pedal Tours has played an active roll in the community. Our party bikes regularly make guest appearances in the St Patrick’s Day Parade, Buffalo Pride Parade and Dyngus Day Parade to name a few. In the last few years, we have also hosted three holiday parties at the Buffalo Public Schools. Most importantly, it means a great deal to us that we are able to contribute to local charities including; Children’s Hospital, the Make a Wish Foundation, Shea’s Buffalo Theatre, Evergreen Health Services, Buffalo Police Athletic League, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Tim Horton’s Camp, Friends of Carly and the International Institute.
Buffalo Pedal Tours proudly rolls through the streets of Buffalo 12 months a year easily accommodating parties up to 86. All tours are BYOB and include a cooler with ice, bluetooth speaker and an awesome tour guide. On our land tours, you have the opportunity to choose to explore Downtown Buffalo or the Buffalo Waterfront at Canalside. Land tours run 2 hours long and stop at 2-3 bars of your choice. All boat tours leave from Buffalo Riverworks and run 100 minutes long.
We pride ourselves on first class customer service, returning calls and emails promptly. Our goal is to make planning your tour as easy as possible. We encourage you to look at our FAQ section for anything we may have missed.
