In 2014, the term ‘pedal pub1’ was heard for the very first time in New York, and presented as ‘entertainment’ for the very first time in Buffalo. Seven years later, the term has become synonymous with one of the most fun things to do in Buffalo. Looking back to 2014, the Downtown Buffalo bar scene was very different from today. Canalside was an industrial park, Buffalo Riverworks was just an abandoned grain silo, and the cracked stone buildings downtown definitely were not considered “art of Buffalo”. But despite skepticism from City of Buffalo officials and the lack of nightlife downtown, BPT founder Ken Szal knew in his gut this was opportunity for something great. He used money from his retirement fund to buy a pedal pub and had it shipped 2,534 miles from the Netherlands to Buffalo.
Guess you can say the moral of the story here is to go with your gut and never give up on what you believe in. Oh, and biking is always better with a beer.
